Octobre: My Little Creative Box

Call Me Katie - My Little Box Review - October 2015 My Little Creative Box - 01

It’s funny, when I signed up to My Little Box I wasn’t planning to stick with it very long considering the luck I’d had with previous subscription boxes. I really, truly wasn’t expecting to still be signed up a year on, and I certainly wasn’t expecting to still be pleased with the contents in the boxes, either! But over the past year I’ve been delighted with what I’ve received each month, and the reviews have become a bit of a staple on my blog. So much so that friends and colleagues have begun asking when I’m due my next box! And so, here’s what was inside the October 2015 My Little Box…

One thing I’ve continuously enjoyed about the My Little Box experience is the attention to the little things. For example, each month there is a sticker on the inside of the cardboard parcel the box comes in that matches the monthly theme. Instead of the usual playful or quirky quote on the inside of the packaging, this month we’ve been challenged to get creative in a competition!

Which makes sense because this My Little Box have teamed up with Pinterest and Pinfluencer Clotilde to put the box together a box themed around creativity.

Ingredients: A teaspoon of risk. A dash of error. A good glug of imagination. Generous helpings of humour.

To get us started, this month’s quote is a famous one by Albert Einstein: Creativity is intelligence having fun.

As someone who works at an award-winning digital creative agency and currently has work up for numerous awards, I can’t help but say this quote is oh so terrifically true!

It wouldn’t be a My Little Box without a copy of My Little World, and this month we’re treated to an interview with Pinfluencer Clotilde and a hair tutorial for a crown braid (as spotted on Pinterest!).

When I took a peek at the box contents in the office (where I get it delivered because I know someone will always be in to collect it!) and pulled these out one of my colleagues noticed these and exclaimed: Ohh, sweeties!

And while I’ll admit that, at a glance, these do look tasty, they are in fact candy for the eyes. (See what I did there?)

I had a bit of a play putting them on my headphones (for some reason the white has become discoloured in patches along the cable, despite never being left in direct sunlight, so I was happy to hide some of that!) and computer charger. The beads were a bit large for my headphone cables (as soon as I went to put them back in my handbag after this picture they started to fall off), and a bit tight for my computer charging cable. (I got them on, but for the life of me haven’t managed to get them off…) So while they make a nice affect for the picture, I’m not sure this exact set is quite right for the bits of technology I own.

This month I’ve received a night cream, a body lotion and a nail polish.

Midnight Cream by My Little Beauty is a night cream meant to help fight a dull complexion. It contains shea butter, which is a common ingredient in many moisturising creams and cleansers – and also one to be wary of if you have acne-prone skin like myself because it can be pore-clogging. While I’ve not had an issue with shea butter in body products, I will be cautious on the first use of this night cream.

The Baija body lotion inFleur de Tiaré also contains shea butter – as well as coconut oil, beeswax and jojoba so I’m expecting it to be very nourishing! It also has a strong tropical scent (which I love!) so I’ll probably be passing on perfume the days I wear it. Sadly I’m not sure where Baija products can be purchased in the UK, so if you know please let me know in the comments!

For the eagle eyed among you you’ll probably recognise the nail polish – I actually received this very same shade (Tate) back in January! It’s a lovely colour, though, and great for autumn, so I may just have to re-gift it to a friend who will appreciate it.

Finally, the lifestyle extra! This month we received a tote bag, which feels appropriate considering the recent introduction of a 5p plastic carrier bag tax in the UK. (Not just because of this new tax, but I’ve always kept a tote inside my regular handbag in case of shopping or office deliveries so I could avoid bringing home unnecessary clutter in the form of disposable bags. This is an especially helpful trick during the holidays when you find you’re carrying all sorts of presents around and never know when you’ll spot the perfect gift for a friend!)

On one side of this bag we’re treated to a vision of Parisian rooftops, with one little beauty enjoying the outdoors and applying some blusher.

On the reverse we have the popular collect moments not things quote, which while lovely in sentiment is a bit contradictory considering it’s printed on a shopper. But no matter, I enjoy it all the same and it’s a nice size so I know it will be put to good use.

Overall I’m not super impressed with this box. While I like each of the items individually, I would have hoped for a bit more creativity with the contents considering the theme. For example, a DIY craft activity would have been lovely, or even the items needed to create seasonal nail art to keep with the beauty theme. I think the tech jewellery was a nice touch, but unfortunately it’s not the right size for the technology I currently have. The one thing I do feel let down by, however, is the nail polish because I received this same colour earlier this year and I would have liked to get something I hadn’t so recently seen in a box.

And with that I’ll leave you with a bit of food for thought with this infographic (on the reverse of this month’s print!) about that Albert Einstein quote from the beginning of this post: “Creativity is intelligence having fun.”

What do you think of this month’s My Little Box? xo

My Little Box runs on a subscription service and costs £11 per month plus £3.95 P&P. For more info, check out the My Little Box subscription area.

  1. Hi, great blog! The Baija Products aren’t in any major retailers like Boots or Superdrug, but can be bought in small boutiques and family run businesses, etc. I own a couple of their products and I think they are great.

    • Ohh, good to know, thank you Meg, that’s super helpful! 🙌 And now I can’t wait to open this one up (am just waiting for my current body lotion to run out – any day day now!) before opening that one. Are there and Baija products you particularly love or recommend? x
