Hippeas is a new brand** with an interesting twist on crispy snacks: chickpea puffs! They’re vegan, they’re organic, they’re gluten-free and they’re pretty darn tasty. I was sent four flavours to try: Pepper Power*, Far out Fajita*, In Herbs We Trust* and Sweet and Smokin’*.
**It was so tempting to write ‘Hippeas is a brand new brand’ but I didn’t because I didn’t want to write ‘brand’ twice in the same sentence, but here I am writing this side note and I’ve managed to work ‘brand’ in four times.
Hippeas are a good source of fibre (approx. 1.6g of fibre per 22g bag pictured) and a source of protein (approx. 2.8g protein per 22g bag pictured) and there are only 91 calories per bag so they’re great for satisfying those crunchy snack cravings if you’re watching intake. (Or for eating mindlessly in front of the TV when you want something crunchy and tasty and a WHOLE LOT OF IT without feeling sluggish later. I’m, erm, not speaking from experience at all on this one… Nope!)
I received these while I was challenging myself to follow a vegan diet for the month of June, and I loved having so many new flavour combinations for crispy snacks. (While many crisps are, in fact, suitable for a vegan diet, some of the more interesting flavours often contain milk in the ingredients list.)
They’re a different ballgame to crisps and rice crackers because the texture is slightly different to each of those, though they still come with that satisfying crunch.
I also like that they include giving back in their online brand manifesto, and while I’m not entirely clear on what that is (I’ve not been able to find info on this yet) I’ve got hopes that it’s a cause I’d be happy to support.
There wasn’t a pack I didn’t like, but the Sweet & Smokin’* was probably my favourite of all of these! I also checked out the website and saw they’ve got some other flavours there, including a Maple Haze and Vegan White Cheddar that I’m really keen on trying as soon as I see them in stores. (Have you seen them? I want more and I’ve finished all of mine and the website doesn’t mention stockists… please help!)
Which flavour would you try first?
Much love, Katie xo
