Travel Diary: Lake District’s Ullswater, Aira Force and Bowness-on-Windermere

Call Me Katie - Lake District Ullswater, Aira Force, Bowness on Windermere and Windermere 1

Living in Britain, the Lake District seems to be one of those places where everyone has visited. From childhood holidays to cycling outings and everything in between, I felt like I’d missed out on a key life experience each time a colleague came to the office with Grasmere Gingerbread and everyone else gathered ’round to reminisce about the beauty of the Lake District.

So, Jeff booked us a week-long trip to the Lake District (where he, like everyone else in Britain, holidayed as a child) to show me what I was missing…

On one of our last days in the Lake District we went for a walk in Aira Force to see Ullswater. We got there by taking a number of buses up a winding hillside with the most amazing view.

Of all the days, this one was the least strenuous physically. Which after several days of very long walks I was happy to take advantage of!

Aira Force is a beautiful landscaped Victorian park, and in the 1780’s the area around the force was landscaped as a pleasure garden with a network of tracks, footpaths and bridges.

We viewed Ullswater from these paths and bridges, and it was amazing to be so up close to the waterfall.

Back in town at Bowness-on-Windermere we had a pub lunch before packing up to take the train back to London.

On this trip we took home Kendall Mint Cake and Grasmere Gingerbread – have you tried either of these snacks before?

Much love, Katie xo
