Three (actually helpful) ways you can use AI at work

Image description, generated by Microsoft Copilot: A human hand and a robotic hand are shaking hands in a modern office setting. The human hand is wearing a yellow sleeve, while the robotic hand is white with visible mechanical components and wiring. In the background, there are blurred office elements such as a laptop, a plant, and some books on a desk. The image symbolizes the collaboration between humans and robots or artificial intelligence in a professional environment.

As courses to teach people how to use AI are popping up, I thought I’d share three (actually helpful) ways you can use AI – specifically Generative AI like Claude, Gemini, Chat GPT, or Copilot in your marketing or communications role today.*

  1. Short on time? Give the Gen AI your unfiltered first draft and ask it to shorten / rephrase / change the tone for a different audience. It’s often easier to edit than to write the first draft, and the outputs will also spark thoughts for you to add / amend / adjust to get it perfect.
  2. Need to email tricky feedback and struggling to get the phrasing right? Give the Gen AI your unfiltered thoughts and ask to make it sound professional. You’ll get a version without your charged emotions. Sense check and amend the output before sending.
  3. Experiencing a creative block? Tell the Gen AI what your desired outcome is, and ask it how to represent that visually. The results will probably be cliché and done before, but it can be a helpful starting point to inspire your next idea.
