Hello, vintage

Hello, vintage. This top is another gift from my mom (gifted to her by a friend), and is probably from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The jeans are dead stock Levis from the late 1980s/early 1990s via eBay, and the shoes were purchased new 9 years ago.

Katie wears a red and gold patterned blouse with high waisted denim cuffed above the her Dr Martens boots. Her hair is down and wavy. She's standing in front of a stone wall with minimal details.

Growing up we usually bought second hand because we couldn’t afford to purchase everything as new. I remember getting teased for it, but deep down I always loved buying second hand because it felt like a real-life treasure hunt, digging through the mixed up bins of clothes, searching through the rails and rails of clothing to see what’s special. I was always drawn to colours, materials and the visible details before seeing an item’s silhouette.

And the possibilities of what I could find and make my own was endless… Flat sheets with cool colours and patterns became curtains in my teenage bedroom. Kaftans with bold prints became house clothes & pyjamas. But the best finds were the ones that were totally unique and perfectly me.
