Each season I find myself lusting after at least one new trend, and this AW I’ve been lusting after a tan suede skirt. I’ve already got a black leather skirt which has been an AW staple for the past couple of years (see a look featuring it here!), and with only one other skirt in my wardrobe (a totally “practical” gold one at that!) I decided to take the plunge and take part in this trend.
However, I wasn’t going to let myself off that easily! With so few skirts in my wardrobe, nothing this colour and no other items in suede (except for a pair of shoes!), I gave myself a challenge: I could only keep the skirt if I could style it for three occasions in ways I felt confident wearing.
Let me show you look one: Office Style.
Skirt: ASOS | Top: Gap, similar | Shoes: Dr Martens | Necklace: Joy*
I spend most of my time at the office, so for my first look I went for something totally practical.
While heeled ankle boots looked great with this look, after a bit of uhmming and ahhing I decided to wear the loafers. (My black trainers were also in the running, but the trainers won simply because they look smarter.) My thinking here was that I prefer to wear flat shoes during the week because I do quite a bit of walking (again – the practicality is showing through!), and once I’ve walked to & from the tube for the commute, gone out at lunch time and walked around the multi-storey office building for meetings, nearly every day I hit about 7,000 steps, with the days when i’m going out in the evening easily going over 10,000 steps. As you can imagine, I like my footwear to be comfy!
To keep the look smart I put on a fitted white button down. This particular shirt is one that I struggle to style because whenever I wear it with my black skirt or skinny jeans I feel like I’m wearing a catering uniform, but the tan skirt added enough of a difference to make it feel classic. I left the top buttons undone to prevent looking too stuffy / formal.
With the crisp white shirt and structured suede skirt I felt like this outfit was already pretty eye catching, so I wanted to keep the jewellery minimal. I was recently gifted this necklace from Joy (see that fashion post here), and with it’s longer chain I think it sits nicely against the white top.
What do you think of the tan suede skirt style? Is it a trend you’ll be trying out this season?
Tomorrow I’ll show the skirt in a going out look, and on Friday I’ll post it styled for an off duty weekend look.
Please note: while the products marked with a star (*) in this blog post were gifts, the views expressed are my own.
I love this skirt, I bought a similar one from New Look and it looks awesome! That necklace is stunning by the way, I have to have it! Jay x
