Spoiler: this whole outfit is secondhand. Since 2000 we’ve doubled clothing production globally. We don’t have double the people, just double the clothes. And while we’ve done this, we’ve reduced how frequently we wear these garments. This equates to more in the rubbish. (source: The Art of Decluttering podcast S1E130 17 November 2019) I’ve been … Continue reading

Why most garments end their lives in landfill
At the moment, the onus is on us as consumers to manage our textile (clothing, bedding, towels…) waste. There’s no accountability with brands, and unlike plastic, glass, paper, aluminium we don’t have curbside collection – because the infrastructure to manage textile recycling doesn’t exist en masse. This means a lot of our garments ends up … Continue reading

This outfit is a new favourite, featuring the first clothing (non-underwear) item I’ve purchased as new since October: a luxurious pure silk blouse that can be handwashed, is designed and made in England, with an ethical supply chain to back it up. Continue reading
Shop the Wardrobe: re-wearing a white pleat skirt and blue wrap top
Now that I’ve been in full swing talking about eco friendly and ethical shopping swaps, I wanted to share a post featuring one of my favourite ways to support the environment in fashion: shopping my wardrobe for new ways to wear what I already own. Shop Small: Jewellery Brands I’m Loving
Jewellery is something that’s always managed to capture my attention. As a young child, I would admire my mother’s wedding band and engagement ring as we sat together at church, sometimes spinning it around her finger to see how the diamonds caught the light. When I was a bit older, it was my sister’s jewellery … Continue reading
Changing my approach to fashion: shopping more sustainably
In the past year I’ve noticed a strong trend for more sustainable shopping practices, from brands expanding recycling schemes to major corporates backing Loop: a TerraCycle solution to close the loop on hard to recycle materials. I also find it interesting that at the same time, decluttering guru Marie Kondo has been rising to fame – most notably with her binge-worthy Netflix series. I can only gather that the majority of us buy, give, and receive much more stuff than we truly need. Continue reading
What I wore: a lace midi dress and slides for a sunny summer day in the park
Summer in London isn’t known for being hot (usualy: mild, pleasant, a bit drizzly), but this year Europe has been experiencing one helluva heatwave. And I just don’t have enough season appropriate clothes to keep up. Continue reading
