Remember this white coat? It’s the one I bought to wear for my wedding two years ago. I got it back then in the January sales about a week before I got married because I realised I didn’t want to freeze on the day or wear my normal purpley-navy winter coat., and I always figured I’ll totally wear this again! White coats are on trend, after all. And while that may be true, and while I have received compliments every time I’ve worn it, I also haven’t worn it all that much for, you guessed it, practical reasons: It’s too cold to go without a hood / it’s too warm to put on a scarf with it / it might rain and it hasn’t got a hood / I’m going out and I don’t know if there’s a cloak room and I don’t want it to get dirty / blah, blah blah. (If you haven’t guessed, I can be excellent at coming up with excuses.)
Lately I’ve been challenging myself to wear it more often because I actually do like it, as much as I moan about it, and I’m really pleased with this outfit I pulled together for a brunch in Camden with Jeff.
First and foremost: the coat! I got it at Oasis back during the 2014 January sales, but it’s still easy to find one in a similar style. A quick look on ASOS and I found this one by Monki, one in Curve and one in Petite – though admittidly the petite one isn’t a winter coat, but rather a trench coat.
It was a blustery day, so I wrapped up in a blanket scarf. I picked up this particular one from Missguided in 2014 after I missed out on buying a very similar style from Zara in 2013 (though I have the red tartan / black & white check reversable scarf from Zara – success!), but a Google search brought me back these two (one and two) results from eBay that are very similar to the red scarf I bought like this one.
My hands are always cold, so I put on some mittens. Or, rather, fingerless gloves with a mitten flap that folds back that I got from the My Little Magic Box.
This is a handbag that I bought in a fit of obsession (I NEED a fringed bucket bag. ABSOLUTELY NEED.) And while it’s not a great bag for day-to-day life in London (my day-to-day bag fits a book, packed lunch, snacks, diary, my personal phone, work phone, hand cream, lip balm… you get the idea! When I go out for the day in London, I am OUT for the day.) It is a lovely addition for evenings / weekends.
This particular fringed bag is from Mango, but the ASOS site has loads in all different colours and shapes!
Do you recognise these shoes? Because I blog about them all the time! My trusty Dr Martens loafers are one of my favourite shoes now that they’re (nearly) broken in.
For the outfit underneath the coat I went for one of my go-to looks: grey skinny jeans, button down and a jumper.
These skinnies are from All Saints, the button down is from Maison Scotch (January sale find via John Lewis!) and the jumper is from Victoria Secret in the USA.
For accessories, I layered on my two bespoke bangles by Whistle + Bango and my Casio watch to play up the monochrome look, and put on the whale tale (or is it a mermaid tail!) necklace that came with the Maison Scotch shirt for a small touch of added detail.
And if you’d like, because I’m a Whistle + Bango brand ambassador I’ve got a special discount code that can get you £10 off any enamel bangle on the Whistle & Bango site! Just use code KATIE10 at checkout.
