Skin care is both the easiest and hardest part of my holiday packing: easy because I know what (cleanser, moisturiser, toner…) I need to bring, hard because I need to figure out which products will be the best ‘what’ for that particular trip and the skincare needs that that climate will present.
Here’s the beauty routine I followed while I was visiting Rio.
Cleanser: I brought my Environ AVST Cleansing Lotion* because it’s a good, gentle cleanser and a bottle that travels well. Rio is hot in November and the sun is strong, so I wanted a gentle, soothing cleanser to help prevent my skin from getting irritated.
Toner: I’ve got oily skin so I brought my REN Clarimatte Carifying Toner to help keep my skin balanced throughout the day.
Facial Spray: The My Little Beauty facial spray isn’t my favourite, but I was nearly out so figured I would bring it along and use it up so it was one less thing to pack on the way home! I also used it liberally throughout the hot afternoons to help feel refreshed on the long days marching about between tourist destinations.
Eye Cream: I wasn’t planning on wearing much makeup, so I brought along my Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado to help keep my dark under eye circles in check.
Serum: This Delarom Hydrating Balancing Aroma* isn’t one that I loved while trialling it in London, but it really did the job while in hot and humid Rio. My skin stayed balanced with this, and felt nicely hydrated despite all the time in the sunshine!
Moisturiser: I brought along two moisturisers: Talika Photo Hydra Day because it was nearly out, and a sample size of Caudalíe Polyphenol Broad Spectrum SPF20 Anti-Wrinkle Protect Fluid*. Both moisturisers were great in doing the job to help keep my skin soft despite the sun exposure, and once I’d used up the Talika I switched over to the Caudalíe.
Treatment: My skin is prone to breakouts, so I packed the sk:n Anti-Blemish spot treatment to use as/when.
I love skin care, and that love doesn’t stop at my face. Like all my sunny clime holidays I packed a heap of sun-specific products. Anthelios by La Roche Posay is one of my favourites, because it doesn’t irritate my skin and offers so many factor 50 products. (Yes, I am one of those people!)
From left to right I brought sunscreen for my face, body (both in a tube for days out & about and in a spray bottle for easier top ups at the beach when covered in sand), eye area and lips.
Sun damage is something I take seriously (after all it’s linked to both premature aging and skin cancer) so I like to make sure my skin is protected.
And when I got back to the hotel after a day out and about I set about cleansing my skin of all the sweat, grime, dirt and sunscreen to leave my face feeling fresh.
Balm cleanser: I’d brought my Sister & Co. Coconut Oil* because I was almost all the way through the jar, and by now I think you’ve realised I like to use up products on holiday. Also, it does a good job as an oil cleanser and can also be used as a deep moisturiser on really dry patches.
Cleanser: For my second cleanse I used the same product as I did in the morning: Environ AVST Cleansing Lotion*.
Toner: Pixi Glow Tonic is one of my favourite exfoliating toners, and with the heat, sweat and sunscreen I wanted to make sure I had an exfoliating toner to help me keep my clores un-blocked and looking clear.
Facial Spray: Same as above.
Eye Cream: The Polyphenol Anti-Wrinkle Eye and Lip Cream is soothing and moisturising, so I packed it to offer my eyes a bit of TLC at bedtime.
Serum: Designed to renew & protect skin during sleep, the Caudalíe Polyphenol C15 Overnight Detox Oil is one of my favourite overnight oils. It always leaves my complexion looking smooth and fresh when I wake up, and seeing as I was forgoing makeup for sunscreen I wanted my face to look as fresh as possible!
Treatment: Same as above.
Which skin care products do you bring on vacation?
Much love, Katie xo
