This outfit is a new favourite, featuring the first clothing (non-underwear) item I’ve purchased as new since October: a luxurious pure silk blouse that can be handwashed, is designed and made in England, with an ethical supply chain to back it up. Continue reading

Shop the Wardrobe: re-wearing a white pleat skirt and blue wrap top
Now that I’ve been in full swing talking about eco friendly and ethical shopping swaps, I wanted to share a post featuring one of my favourite ways to support the environment in fashion: shopping my wardrobe for new ways to wear what I already own. This may sound obvious, but in the online fashion community there’s a real trend to only show the newest clothes, latest styles, and never show repeated items. Continue reading

Shop Small: new glasses from Cubitts
I’ve worn prescription lenses on / off since I was 12, and with a new prescription to fill I wanted glasses that best fit my price range, sustainability and ethical production efforts, and style aesthetics. Continue reading
Sustainable Living: swapping plastic toothbrushes for bamboo
Did you know? 91% of our plastics don’t get recycled and are essentially waste. This suggests that our current recycling methods don’t work, that the recycling technologies we have are failing us, the planet, and our future. As much as this terrifies me, it’s motivating me to change my habits, to exit the take-make-dispose consumer cycle in as many ways as possible.
Here are a 3 of the unexpected swaps I’ve made to simply not create the waste in the first place, which I’ll be sticking with in the long term. Continue reading

Shop Small: Jewellery Brands I’m Loving
Jewellery is something that’s always managed to capture my attention. As a young child, I would admire my mother’s wedding band and engagement ring as we sat together at church, sometimes spinning it around her finger to see how the diamonds caught the light. When I was a bit older, it was my sister’s jewellery … Continue reading

Sustainable Living: what we can do to conserve water each day
Water is our most valuable resource, and my greatest fear is living through a water crisis. Unfortunately for me, water scarcity already affects every continent. In 2017 South Africa experienced a water crisis so severe the government announced “day zero” was coming – the day the water levels would be so low that the taps … Continue reading
Changing my approach to fashion: shopping more sustainably
In the past year I’ve noticed a strong trend for more sustainable shopping practices, from brands expanding recycling schemes to major corporates backing Loop: a TerraCycle solution to close the loop on hard to recycle materials. I also find it interesting that at the same time, decluttering guru Marie Kondo has been rising to fame – most notably with her binge-worthy Netflix series. I can only gather that the majority of us buy, give, and receive much more stuff than we truly need. Continue reading
